M23 to M25 to A24 to Vauxhall? Or A23 all the way? The right route depends entirely on the time you set off.
The Gatwick to Mayfair journey looks simple on a map. In practice, the right route depends entirely on what hour you set off. Here are the six time windows and what we drive at each.
South circular and Vauxhall Bridge are clear before 07:30. The standard motorway route works. Allow 60 to 75 minutes door to door. After 07:30, this route adds 25 minutes. Switch to plan B.
The A23 carries less commuter traffic than the M23 in the rush hour northbound. Counter-intuitive but proven. 75 to 90 minutes.
The fastest window of the day. 55 to 70 minutes is normal. Most flexible window for client lunch arrivals.
The M25 is congested every evening between J7 and J10. The chauffeur stays on the A23, suffering only Streatham, and arrives in Mayfair while the motorway driver is still at Wisley. 90 minutes is realistic.
The M23, M25 west and A23 are all moving slowly at the same time. 105 to 125 minutes is normal. Where flexible, advise clients to fly into Heathrow or take a train to Victoria.
Empty motorways. 50 to 60 minutes. The same is true after 21:00 any night.
We watch the live traffic during your flight, and the dispatcher chooses the route at boarding time, not at booking time. Three times last week we re-routed via Wandsworth Bridge instead of Vauxhall because of an incident on the embankment, saving clients 25 minutes. The driver gets the route on his Carplay before you sit down.
Most Gatwick clients book the Mercedes E-Class at £135 fixed, or the S-Class at £175 for executive arrivals. Gatwick chauffeur service details.
